I Feel...
I feel...tired, confused, and a little crazy. I have had so many thoughts on what to do my action research plan on. But, I have kept the same idea for over a week, so I think that solidifies it, I am going to investigate the use of tablets with kindergarten students. At first, and still my main objective, I want to see if their test scores improve. But now I also want to look at the desire to learn using the tablets. Can I find any intrinsic motivation? I don't know how measurable that will be, but I just want to see. Maybe I look at for curiosity, but I think that students listen and pay attention more often with technology than with out it. When I taught Pre-K there were times that I would turn the document camera on me so I would be displayed. They listened so much better. I am planning on resting this Spring Break, but also reflecting on parts of the research plan. Have a great week everyone who is reading!!!!!

It seems like several people are going to conduct their action research on ipads/tablets in the classroom, so you should have a lot of resource in the process. I wanted to research a similar topic, but it was not accepted by my principal due to lack of resources/lack of funding to provide additional resources. You are right that kids are often more motivated to learn via technology. I'm going to have to turn my document camera on myself one day just to see the kids' reactions. haha! Get some rest & I will continue to follow your progress on this journey.
ReplyDeleteI think any time you throw some type of technology into the mix, kids perk up and pay attention. I would assume that this is because it isn't used as often as it should be...or maybe because life today revolves around it. I think it can serve as a great motivator if it isn't used for EVERYTHING we do as educators. I am old school, in some respects, and believe that a good old-fashioned book from the library is still a necessary experience for a child to have. I look forward to hearing about your results!!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if I understood you about using a tablet. Do you have experience using a tablet and what type of technology do you use in your classroom now. I agree younger students get excited with technology as they do with anything new or shiny. Our kids love playing with gadgets and can learn with technology better I believe but can not be for certain. I am interested in what your data has to say with researched ideas. I have seen in some districts that have computers and laptops for every student, always seem to be exemplary schools.
ReplyDeleteI do know how to use a tablet for my own personal use. I have never used one with students. I am the technology teacher for my campus so all students come to me once a week. I have a promethean board, document camera, and projector. I also use activotes and activexpressions and digital camera that we use regularly. Every classroom has 5 computers, but I wanted to research if using the tablet would raise their scores on K-TIPS. My administrators have not purchased any tablets because they didn't know if it would just be something "new and shiny" and then sit on the shelf and collect dust. I hope that is a little more clear.
